HE Shaikh Rashid Bin Khalifa Al Khalifa
HE Shaikh Rashid Bin Khalifa Al Khalifa is an artist and patron with an abiding passion and discerning eye for contemporary art and design. In 1982 he co-founded the Bahrain Arts Society, which he is currently serving as the honorary president.
His generosity, vision and dynamism have made a significant impact on Bahrain’s contemporary art and within art organisations around the globe, not only as patron but as Bahrain’s most important artist.
Focusing on Bahraini art and its integration with the world inspired him to initiate the creation of artBahrain in 2010, a tool for the understanding of contemporary art today and tomorrow. It has sponsored a wide variety of projects since then, producing art exhibitions and supporting educational projects. But that was just the beginning.
“I am very pleased in the remarkable work achieved by artbahrain. But there is always more to do. There are challenges; both here and around the world that I know will push us to broaden our reach and ways to build more bridges – to make a difference in the art life of the future generation.”
Speaking of building bridges, plans are underway for the first exhibition of Royal Bridges. Another nonprofit organization he initiated in 2010 to further knowledge and nurture critical seeing and by advancing the understanding and preservation of the world’s royal and princely artistic heritage.
Shaikh Rashid continues to provide significant leadership for the advancement of contemporary arts locally, regionally and internationally by championing, developing and investing in artistic experiences that enrich people’s lives.
